Running a 2.0V chip at 2.8V or a 2.8V chip at 2.0V probably makes
a bigger (and possibly more permanent!) difference than a few
steppings.

There's an interesting discussion of this topic in
http://www.erols.com/chare/mixed.htm .  According to this page,
Intel says there are "no issues" mixing dA1 or dB0 (Deschutes)
with C1 (Klamath), but there "may be" some "problematic" errata
when mixing dA1 or dB0 with C0.  I don't know the exact 
relationship between the numeric and alphanumeric stepping
codes.

That page also suggests that separate voltage regulator modules
are required for mixing Deschutes and Klamath.
