Go to http://www.linuhq.com/ and download the latest kernel, which at the moment is 2.1.129. That I did. Any version of Linux kernel (within foreseeable past) includes SMP support, but 2.1.x kernels are much better and faster (because they are latest). What do you mean by faster. I have several identical SMP machines. One had the 2.0.36 kernel that came with Red Hat 5.2 and One that has the new 2.1.129 kernel. With both machines I did a make of the 2.0.36 kernel with make -j 8. The machine with the 2.0.36 kernel seems to have had the faster time. I will have to do some more testing. But given the current result I may go back to the 2.0.36 kernel. When you download the kernel and unpack it, read Documentation/Changes file which explains which packages you may need to upgrade. I didn't read the documentation (I will now) I simply compiled and install the 2.1.129 kernel. If you are using Red Hat 5.2 (good choice, btw!) then you probably don't need to upgrade anything at all (I run 5.1 and I only had to upgrade modutils and net-tools + a few bits'n'pieces you don't want to know at this stage). I didn't upgrade anything just compiled and installed 2.1.129
