There was a problem with multicast tables getting hosed sometimes
under SMP on 8390 chips.  Alan made a proper fix that put all sorts of
chastity belts in the way of such behavior.  It is possible, although
not necessarily likely. that a similar mechanism (attempting a transmit
on one CPU while handling an interrupt on another) could get the
the interrupts tangled up.  So I'd say try it.  When you say "lock up",
do you mean the card becomes useless or the kernel hangs?
