Tonight I went to Radio Shack and picked up a small tube of thermal paste.
I then took off the green heatsink that lays on top of the BX chip, put a
generous coating of paste on it, and topped it off with a heatsink/fan
combo from an old AMD PR133 I had laying around. I had to shave off some
of the plastic clips that would normally hold the heatsink on the chip in
order for it to lay flatly against the chip. Since there is no way for
the heatsink/fan to stay attached to the board, I have to let the paste
harden and heat up and become very sticky before I can put my tower
upright again. I just did this about 10 minutes ago, so I will leave the
box running all night and see what happens. I'll post to the list my
results, good or bad. BTW, this box is a BP6, 2 400s, 2940UW SCSI, and
kernel 2.3.18ac10.
