I am using the DPT-Driver with linux-2.2.5 and it is working properly.
(But this won't help you).

The problem is that Linux-SMP with 2.0.x kernels is somehow obsolete.
SMP is far more stable with 2.2.x kernels but the problem is that the
DPT driver exists only for linux-2.2.5 and all kernels < 2.2.11 (I
think) are vulnerable to DoS attacks. Patching a new kernel (e.g.
2.2.14) is probably possible but would cost a lot of time as patching
does not work "out of the box".

AFAIK the new 2.3 and also the 2.4 kernels implement a I2O driver that
will replace the DPT-Drivers and will be available in any linux kernel.
So I would recommend you to think about waiting for linux-2.4 or (if you
like being risky) using a 2.3 kernel but I have no experiences about the
stability of these.

                Best Regards,
                Hermann
