I'm trying to set up an old computer as a data aquisition
system to toy around with. I want to use the sound card
(an old sb compatible) to do A/D conversion using the mic
input and D/A using the speaker output. The intended
application is not for "hard science" but to do science
projects with kids.

What is the best level to start at for constructing an
application to control the card? Should I just use the
linux/soundcard library or would I be better off using
a toolkit (what toolkit {must be free}?). Any other
advice would also be appreciated. Thanks,

Brian Todd
