Dave -

I had asked Brian privately some time ago if he'd gotten around
to looking at 2.6 issues for LfS yet; he told me he hadn't, and
didn't expect to for some time to come.

Jayateerth -

The changes I made for 2.6 that are already in 2.17.[x] were tested
on stock 2.6.4, 2.6.5, and 2.6.6 kernels. I have since made other
changes for Fedora Core 2 2.6.5/2.6.6 kernels, SuSE's 2.6.4-52 (
for SuSE 9.1) and stock 2.6.7 kernels, though I haven't yet done
any testing on FC2 or SuSE (I have no SuSE system, but can build
for any kernel for which I have source, and I have the SuSE 2.6.4-52
source).

I didn't begin to look at 2.6 issues until 2.6.4 had been released,
and thus have never tested building or running on 2.6.0-[x]..2.6.3.

At the same time, I don't know of any distro that is using a 2.6.3
kernel. If you're building your own kernel, I recommend 2.6.6,
but if you're using some distro's version of 2.6.3, you might let
me know where I can get the source for it, so I can at least see
what the build-time differences are and what impact they might
have. It is likely that there were KBUILD changes in 2.6.4, for
example, since there were significant changes in 2.6.5 and 2.6.6.

Otherwise, if you're installing kernels that you've built yourself,
I would caution you to make sure your system is ready to support a
2.6 kernel (as outlined in the version requirements in the Changes
file in the kernel sources).

John Boyd has an experimental version of LiS that works on one of the 2.6 kernels, I think it is 2.6.5. However the changes that he made are too extensive for me to easily accept into the mainline and I don't have the time, for the next weeks, or perhaps, months, to back-fit just the 2.6 related changes.

So if John would care to publish his results you could try that one. John, if you want me to put it on the Gcom FTP site, I will do that.

I thought that Brian had Linux Fast STREAMS all 2.6 compatible and ready to go.....

Hi brian,

I tried installing 2.17 version of LiS on Linux Kernel
2.6.3, I was able to build it. but when i tried to
insert streams module, it gave me error saying that
module version is not supported.

When I tried installing on 2.4.20 kernel, it is
working fine.

I would like to know is there any patch for LiS on
Linux Kernel 2.6.3.

Thanks and Regards,
Jayateerth
