I'm happy you have rememberd it, I have actually, TWICE.
The first time there was some talk about it being required at all, which
Wolfgang even said it might/should [1].
The second time there was even less interest [2]. I've hoped Henrik
would pick up on it as he should have some weight in the u-boot
community ... but alas ..

P.S. That's all i could find in a quick google search, I think there may
have been more messages from me on this subject ...
So now that the cat is out of the bag wrt me talking to Marek, yes there
now is something resembling a plan for upstreaming u-boot sunxi. I won't
start working on this until I've finished getting all the kernel bits
I've currently in-flight upstream as I don't want to open yet another
"battle front". If anyone wants to beat me working on this they are
very much invited to do so (*).
