The thread turned away from its topic and towards microSD in mainline. As you're both interested in microSD console, I write since I hope that you agree that this topic has an important non-technical aspect. While the [[New Device howto]] is 'a clear guide for bringing up a previously unsupported and unknown device' and gears toward a professional tear down, a large class of devices is already extremely well supported by linux-sunxi, among them many types of tablets. Here, the problem is more to provide guidance to simply install what is readily there. Two means are available to access the console beside physically tear down and these are graphic support in mainline u-boot and the microSD approach. Both are working well, and I for one had not needed to solder UART pads yet on my tablet to get productive with it. IMO, these should be more emphasized and better documented in the wiki, especially under the above aspect. What I think of is a kind of 'Gentle new tablet howto' page, focusing of the very first steps, one with few hardware skills should make selecting a tablet and installing Linux on it. Naturally, microSD would play the same role there, that UART pads play in the [[New Device howto]]. I wonder, if you think that such a page would be helpful and if we could collect together some bullet points for a draft.
