Do you have a real ATAPI capable IDE controller in this system? If so,
take the Ditto Max back and swap it for a Seagate TR-4 ATAPI/IDE tape
drive. The price should be around the same (US$250). Plus, you get a
drive that provides 4GB of real stroage capacity (8GB compressed) and
will work 100% under Linux.

As for your 486 and the DASH DX card, it is a PnP card and it won't work
properly without PnP support in the BIOS. And, this drive MUST be
connected to a 2000Kps controller as a minimum for proper operation.
Therefore, it will not work with a normal FDC.
Good luck,
