2.0.35 & 3.04 works.  Didn't try 4.x for reasons unrelated
to ftape.

just a shot into the dark ... you said you were 'upgrading' from
ftape 2.08.  Did you compile a kernel witOUT (no joking) without
any ftape in it?  Did you clean up /lib/modules/2.0.xx and did a
"make modules_install" (to remove any and all uncompiled/unused
modules?  If so, there should be NO ftape.o in there (until you
install ftape-4.x).

Doubt it ... unless you have a different kernel or do some other
strange things. :-)
