Carl, Nothing is ever stupid. As for the tapes they all say Ditto max and
the drive is "supposed" to work with all three tapes.

Thanks for your help I got the furthest with your replies.
I want to thank everyone else for their help. I have thrown ion the towel
for now. I am removing the drive and installing it in a dos machine to see
if it works. I took a future domain SCSI controller off my bench and threw
in an Exebyte drive I had (it wouldn't work in a customers NT box). Changed
an IRQ did a modprobe fdomain.o and within seconds I could talk to the tape
drive on st0. I got the same error message I did on NT which confirmed the
dat drive is bad but at least I can put in a SCSI drive and be done with
it. You can only RTFM and test for so long. It is time to fish and not cut
bait.
