Hi,

I would like to thank all those who answered my cry for help in
installing ftape 4.02.

Indeed, the problem was a broken version of the module utilities. I
had actually downloaded a more recent version, but had not compiled it
after reading in the modutils README that I had to compile it with a
2.1.x kernel. In desperation I decided to try and compile it anyway
and to my (glad) surprise it worked. (Maybe someone ought to ammend
the modutils README?)

Anyhow, the installation works now:

<101 barney> lsmod
Module Pages Used by
ftape-internal 3 0
zftape 20 0
ftape 34 [ftape-internal zftape] 0

<102 barney> ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status
This is a Iomega DITTO MAX floppy tape drive, (drive type = 0x8885)
drive status = 0x00000001
generic drive status = 0x00040000
(In particular: * door open (no tape) * )
sense key error = 0x00000000
residue count = 0
file number = -1
block number = -1

Thanks again,

              Jos
