Thank you to all those you who pointed me at the SIG11 faq and especially
Arnold Kirkmand Christensen who mentioned problems with gcc as distributed
with Red Hat 5.0. A download of the latest gcc did indeed solve the
compilation problem.
I was still struggling with configuring to use the
FC10 controller when the inevitable happened. A hard drive crapped out on
me under Windows when, during an unattended scan, the system ran out of
memory. (On my return it sounded like the heads were being repeatedly
dashed against the side of the drive. Is that possible?)
So I have to repeat a month or mores work before I can get back to ftape.
(The wrong way round you may think but needs must ...).
In the interim if anyone has experience of using FC10 with ftape I shall
be grateful for any guidance you can offer, the manuals and faq seem to be
little light in that area.
Clifford
