two points:
1) you have to load 3 (three!) modules: ftape, zftape and
ftape-internal to get ftmt talk to your tape.
2) Sometimes it's necessary to configure your ditto dash on
it's own IRQ/PORT/DMA. It depends on the m/b BIOS
combination. Your have to try it out.

PNP configuration has to happen during or immediate after
boot up. Without your Ditto Dash is not accessible by your
ftape-internal module.
ftape configuration is completely independend of how your
hardware is setup, by PNP, jumpers or anything else. You have
to tell ftape-internal how to access the board. This can be
done by compile-time configuration, during module load with
command line arguments or by kerneld with options-lines in
/etc/conf.modules.
