There is a new snapshot which _should_ compile and run with v2.2 kernels.

Other notable changes (w.r.t. the previous ftape-4.03-pre-something) are:

- no more negative use counts with v2.0 kernels
- should compile on alpha AXP (don't know whether it works)
- debugging levels and the "function_nest_level" are now of
atomic_t. This solves some problems with SMP machines were debugging
  messages wasn't printed correctly sometimes.
- See ChangeLog for little more detailed description of what has changed.

Still to do:

- Release 4.03.
- Get a trace log of DOS program driving a Seagate parallel port tape
drive. They still doesn't work with ftape.
- Provide kernel patches and try to push ftape-4.03 into v2.2 SOON.
- Determine whether ftape works with alpha machines.
- search the mailing list backlog for relevant bug reports (only 630
  messages, so what :-)

The snapshot is located at

P.s.:
Although located under the "unstable/" directory it should not be less
stable than the other pre-releases. It is just that those tarballs are
_potentially_ unstable as they are automatically created by a cron job
each night.
