Irritating ftape problem!!!!

Hi

I recently upgraded to kernel 2.2.1 and also downloaded the
ftape-4.x-1999_02_07 snapshot. I compiled and installed this, however
when I try to execute the command "ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status" I get a
"Device not configured error". I'm using a Ditto 2GB external drive (i.e
connected to my parallel port).

What do I do? Do I have to recompile my kernel or something to configure
the device?

Please help
