Hi,

I have a problem with ftape-tools/ftape:
I installed the Kernel-Version 2.2.2 on my system (P200, Asus TX 97-E,
Adaptec AHA-2940, SCSI-hard disk, Colorado 250MB with FC-20-tape
controller) properly. "insmod ftape" and insmod "zftape" works fine
(Compiled Parameters: IRQ 9, DMA 3, I/O 0x180, additionaly I assign
these IRQ- and DMA-parameter for the ISA-Card in the BIOS).

The result is: Writing archives to a tape with tar works and restoring
an archive, too (no problems, but not very comfortable). But ftape-tools
fails some times. Typing

 ftformat -f /dev/(n)rft0 --mode=auto --format-parameters=qic80-307ft

produces the output:

Unbekannte Formatieranwendungssbenutzerschnittstelle. Ich geb's auf.
Ioctl Fehler beim enter primary mode QIC-Kommando: Keine Berechtigung

In /var/log/messages I read this:
Feb 26 10:12:56 krumbholz1 kernel: [078] zftape-ctl.c (mtiocftcmd) -
driver ne
eds to be in raw mode for this ioctl.

And on the screen appears:

Unable to close ftformat pipe

So I thought there is something wrong and I try the ftape-4.02-version.
But I failed compiling this sources. The message appearing on the screen
is:

fdc-io.c: In function `fdc_interrupt_wait':
fdc-io.c:433: structure has no member named `timeout'
fdc-io.c:454: structure has no member named `timeout'
make[2]: *** [fdc-io.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/usr/local/software/ftape/ftape-4.02/ftape/lowlevel'
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/software/ftape/ftape-4.02/ftape'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Next I try to work with OpenBackup3.0 and I fail, too. The program
couldnt write any information onto the tape, so their is use of the
program.

Perhaps I am not the only having these trouble and somebody can help me.

Sincerely
Rainer Lassahn
