Check the version of mt-st you are using. I believe that your previous
version of RedHat shipped with 0.4. Since 0.5, I've had to create a
symlink between /dev/nst0 and /dev/tape to get mt-st 0.5 to work
properly.
Also, there is a patched version of mt-st (0.5b, I believe) that will
fix this (or you can backgrade to 0.4).
