ftape-tools-1999_03_17

Do I need to use ftape-tools-1999_03_17   with  ftape-4..03x or can I use
ftape-tools-1.07-1 , because when I go and compile  ftape-tools-1999_03_17     
it comes up with some errors.. Like sed: can't read ./etc/makefile.in : no such
file or directory.. is that not the makefile.in that should be in  
ftape-tools-1999_03_17     
directory and not in /etc.. Any help would be appreciated...
