Hi all,

This is a general question. I am using ftape-3.4d and kernel
2.0.36. Up to recently I had no problem whatsoever with the tape
drive and ftape. Unfortunately, last night I cleaned the tape
(Ditto Easy 3200 insider) as recommended in the user guide. Now I
cannot write or read the tapes. This is the situation with the two
tapes cartridge that were fine as I had extracted some files from the
tapes a few days ago.

I can communicate with the unit ( rewind, retens, etc ) but cannot
get the status I get I/O error. If I try to erase the tape then I
get a permission error.

When I tried to get the header information with BRU2000 it then
warns me that the tape is not formatted.

Thus I tried to reformat the tape, but I believe that it does not go far
on the tape and just keeps on rewind to the beginning of the tape
and starting again:

root dominic] ftformat -vvv --mode=auto --format-parameters qic-standard=TR-3
--discard-header
Tape drive type: Iomega 3200 (0x8882)
--format-parameters
qic-standard=0x83,format-code=4,floppy-head-max=53,floppy-track-max=254,segments-per-track=1082,tracks-per-tape=50,gap3=248
Writing reference bursts ...

This is the only output I had after letting the tape go for ten
hours. When I extracted the tape this morning it was hot.

Any help would be appreciated! Is there something to do or the unit
as just died...

Dominic.
