You need a newer, *unstable* version of ftape 4.x (the unstable
is misleading, from what I hear tell they are stable ...)

The kernel structures have changed, so 'timeout' does no
longer appear the same in 2.2.x as it did in 2.0.x

That is the ftape in the 2.2.x kernels, not SuSE's fault. I
think it also does not find 'timeout', but I don't know
really ...
