I suggest downloading the latest "unstable" version of ftape from URL:
http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/
I am using ftape-4.x-1999_04_25.tar.gz , but more recent ones are probably
best. I run it as dynamically loaded (i.e., not statically linked into the
kernel).
