Yes, you can do a ftmt eom to go to the end of the written
medium for appending more archives.  You need to use a
non-rewinding device and you *must* do a ftmt rewind before
removing the tape or shutting down the computer (the file
information is kept at the beginning of the tape and must be
updated, thus the rewind).

You can advance n archives forward by 'ftmt fsf n', return to
the beginning of the current archive by 'ftmt bsf 1' and go
back n archives by 'ftmt bsf $((n + 1))'

There are issues with multible archives on one tape, like a
broken tape (all archives lost, probably) that you must reason
out yourself, though.  And always, always do a compare!
