Thank you. It was the output of mt indeed. The output of ftmt:

#ftmt -f /dev/nrft0 status
This is a Conner C250MQ floppy tape drive, (drive type = 0x014e)
drive status = 0x0022d865
generic drive status = 0x41000000
(In particular: * at begin of tape * tape online * )
sense key error = 0x00001b1f
residue count = 32768
file number = 0
block number = 0

MTIOCVOLINFO result:
file number = 0
block size = 10240
physical space used = 88.6 megabytes
real size of volume = 88.6 megabytes

MTIOCGETSIZE result:
total bytes on tape = 118.9 megabytes
total bytes used = 88.7 megabytes
total bytes left = 30.2 megabytes

The output pretty much looks like what I'd expect to see. But still
it gives a non zero value for the sense key error. And something that
bothers me more: bru thinks the tape displayed above is an empty
tape. But this very tape was written with bru, and I'm desperate to
read it.
