Thanks for the tips. I think I've narrowed the problem down, and it
looks like it's hardware. I can't get the drive to work either under
Linux or Windoze. Either all of my tapes have gone bad (yes, they are
pre-formatted and the write-protect switch was in the correct position)
or the drive has gone bad. I pulled the drive to see if it was clogged
with dust. It had quite a bit, but getting rid of it made no
difference. Now the question is, does anyone have any experience
dealing with this sort of thing? Is there anything else worth trying
before I trash the thing and get a replacement? If I do look for a
replacement, should I avoid Exabyte like the plague (this drive is less
than two years old) or is this an anomaly?
