You are correct, it will not work with ftape.

As for getting it to work, don't bother trying.  You can't get tapes,
you can't get support, and the Irwin Accutrac format is propriatary with
no available documentation (I was partly responsible for killing the
Accutrac line in '93 while I was at Archive in favor of the Super
Hornet).

Unless you have data on tapes that is ABSOLUTELY mandatory for your day
to day Linux life, or you're a doctoral student looking for a thesis
that no one else has done, this drive is best relegated to a shooting
gallery as a target.

A shooting gallery is really too cruel, isn't it? ;-)

What about museums for computers. I think it would be very interesting in 20
years (+ a laugh) for our youngsters to see how their parents and
grandparents could manage with such elementary tools. Today we have flight
museums many places in the world. There must be someone trying to keep track
on the Computer Hardware History.
