In case you use those special SUSE kernels: Forget them. Go and download
the real kernel e. g. from kernel.org: Kernel 2.2.12 is the current one.
Compile and install it completely, i. e. including "make modules modules_install"

Reboot into your new kernel

Go and download the most recent ftape version: 1999-09-11.
And do not forget ftape-utils.
Maybe some reading in ftape-doc is necessary.

consequently, I must say...

no, but a proper kernel source without any changes done by suse is absolutely
necessary. Do not forget to set up that symbolic link /usr/src/linux in the
correct way.

Ok, times are changing. If you have an external ditto 2 GB, you will
have to have a look at the modules parport and parport_pc.
It might be necessary to unload the printer related module "lp" before
trying to play around with ditto.

Bye, Juergen.
