I've recently reinstalled my linux system SUSE 6.0
(Kernel 2.0.36) and have a TAR Tape I made with my old system which
was with the same Linux Veresion and
Kernel.
The problem is that I am unable with Ftape to reead
my old tapes.
I have an Iomega DITTO 2GB and previously had
FTAPE-3.04d which is the first version that supported IOMEGA 2GB.
When
that was installed everything worked fine with TAR
commands.
After my reinstall I downloaded FTAPE-4.02
and was also able to save and restore files with TAR but unable to read the old
tapes.
After reading the FINE manuals I saw that the
compression feature has been dropped. So I downloaded FTAPE-3.04d to
see
if that would work. I still can't read my old
tapes.
The symptoms are that I do a "tar -tvf /dev/ftape"
and all that comes back is the bash prompt as if the Tape is empty. I also
tried the
devices /dev/zqft0 and /dev/qft0 directly and the
result is the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could
try to access my old tapes?? I know that they are not empty and would
really like
to get my stuff back.
Thanks
