Hmmm, tricky.

You *could* try to use the vtblc program to try to recreate
the volume table ... but that is completely your risk.

AFAIR you can open the tape housing and wind on the tape till
past the 'begin/end of tape' holes.  That should do it, but *if*
your drive despools the tape, probably your drive's BOT/EOT
detector (a lightbeam detecting the holes) is ... broken.
