I'm having the same problem--and have been working on it all day.  I have
tried 5.2 6.0 and 6.1.  However, as your email came in, I have found the
following site:  http://www.csd.uu.se/~mikpe/linux/ftape/  which seems to
explain for my kernel version what to do.  I'm not sure about your version,
yet, but I will keep looking.
