Hi Jim,
I have an Exabyte 8505XL tape drive in my SUN Ultra2 that is running under
RH Linux 6.0 Tape works great, but here's my problem:
At work, My Sun E450, running Solaris 2.5.1 also has an Exabyte 8505XL. I
had 4 ISO images for RH 6.1 on it and needed to get them home. I went to
the directory, dropped a new tape in and typed
"tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0 ."
It wrote all 4 ISO's to the tape. I verified them before I went home.
Got home, fired up the Ultra2 and dropped in the tape. Typed "tar -xvf
/dev/st0".
It accessed the tape then gave:

tar: read error on /dev/st0: Input/output error
tar: At beginning of tape, quitting now
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I then took it back to work and popped it into the E450's 8505XL drive and
it read it just fine.
Any ideas what's going on and what I can do to extract it from tape under
Linux?

Thanks,
Dave
