Are you sure that you passed ftformat the correct parameters? I have a
Sony QTR-3 here that works fine when formatting a TR-3 (3020) tape. Try
this command:
ftformat --mode=auto --format-parameters qic-standard=TR-3 \
--omit-erase --discard-header
