Error compiling ftape 4.02 or 4.03 pre 2

I downloaded the files and untar's them. 
when i go to compile it get almost through and then gives
the following error when attempting to compile fdc-io.c

structure has no member named 'timeout'

and at that point it dies..

this happed in both 4.02 and 4.03 pre 2.

any ideas?
