It is not a dumb question, though it comes up several times a week. I wish
there a way to post a FAQ for a mailing list.
The kernels in the 2.2.* series will not run with older versions of the ftape
suite.
You need to get both the ftape and the ftape-tools in the "unstable" or
"development" series. These work very well. Try URL:
