Hi INAZTE,

sorry, you did not tell us your real name.

where's the problem? Some days ago I bought new media for this
type of drive in the next computer and office store. Actually the
old 2GB (1GB netto) cartridges aren't available anymore, but the
ditto 2G drive is ready to handle the 3.7 (1.85 GB netto) media.

You did not tell us where you tried to buy them, but even in good
old Germany Iomega products are available off the shelf.

Did you try Iomega's homepage for information about the next
reseller?

The drive is able to read old QIC-80 tapes. But it cannot format
tapes, so you have to use the preformatted tapes of Iomega. :-(

Are you sure that your tape is ok? You have a two year warrenty
and Iomega stand's to this. I tried it, no problem.

If you insert a tape into the drive, it should start some
positioning operations. This is done by the drive itself and has
nothing to do with any software on your machine. This positioning
operation may need up to one minute or so, depending on the tape.
If your drive does not stop spooling after inserting a cartridge,
the tape is despooled. You may look at Iomega's support page for
advice to repair this.

One hint: if your tape was not used for several months it may be
wise to clean head _and_ the tape-end detection LED system
(photoelectric barrier). Keeping this tape-end detection clean
prevents your drive from unspooling tapes. Use a cotton bud
(Q-tip) and isopropanol.

Keep in mind, under Linux (ftape 4.0x) you need 3 modules loaded
to have access to the tape: ftape, zftape and ftape-internal.

Sorry If this bothers you.
