Trying to kill the keyboard, Jeffrey B. Siegal ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Check all cables and termination, maybe you also need to clean
the tape drive.  SCSI can become really slow when the cabling
is off spec.

Also try turning off DAT compression, and try tu use just cat
to transfer the data.  Maybe try to build your own kernel,
if all the above fails.
