We're seeing very slow writing performance on an HP C1537A (DDS3) tape drive,
writing onto a DDS3 tape. It is connected to a Diamond Fireport 40 using the
sym53c8xx driver (using the ncr driver appears not to make a difference). The
system is SMP with the out-of-the-box Red Hat 6.1 kernel installed.

This drive should write at about 1MB sec, and actually writes 100-200KB/sec.
It does not report any hard or soft tape errors. Prior to upgrading to RH 6.1
it was running Red Hat 5.2 + Red Hat's 2.2 (SMP) kernel and the performance
was *much* better.

Suggestions?
