Thanks for your help, but I'm still not there.  Now I'm getting messages
telling me that my devices (e.g., rft0, qft0) are not configured.  How
does one configure these devices.  I have downloaded much of the
documentation and read it, but I have not found any mention of this.
When I try to use 'ftape-tool', I get a message which tells me that
ftformat was unable to close the pipe (???).  All very confusing to me.
