My experience with device not configured end up on backpack and parallel
port are not working toghether. If you r are trying fatepe with
microsolution approach
I suggest to look at the kernel report when you increase the trace level to
8.
Look inside /proc/krmsg (or kmgs I forgot the name of the proc file).

In particular ftape it seams to recognize only EPP mode and some chipset
are not EPP or not epp that fdc_bpk can recognize.
