HW Compression /should\ be automatically enabled on your DAT. Check it
by issuing 'mt -f /dev/nst0 datcomp' and see what mt tells you. As for
the TR-3 bricks, er, drives, they aren't IDE. I think you mean TR-4.
TR-4 ATAPI drives don't have HW compression. They depend on their
software for compressed storage capabilities.

It's best that you don't use the -z with the DAT, but as I said, the
TR-4 drives will only get beyong 4GB with software compression.
