It is never too much (unless the email ends up massive).
Unfortunately, you missed the important section - ftape logs
information to syslog, which usually means /var/log/messages - please
extract the ftape-related information from there; there should be some
more information about the error.

Are you aware that kernel versions before 2.2.16 have a serious bug,
where root access can be gained by a normal user?
