I have updated my little ezusb_load program, simplifying it
and its input syntax. There no longer is a length count in each line,
numbers no longer have a leading "0x" in front of them, and all
numbers are hexadecimal. This makes the firmware files much easier
to read. I am calling this version 0.2.
I have also created a separate ezusb_firmware tar file,
which should be a complete port of the "firmware" images for all of the
keyspan/whiteheat USB serial devices. Even though this is the initial
version, I am calling it version 0.2, in case it turns out to be
useful to synchronize version numbers of ezusb_load and ezusb_firmware.
Both tar files include makefiles which allow you to do "make all" and
"make install." The URL's are:
ftp://ftp.yggdrasil.com/private/adam/ezusb/ezusb_load-0.2.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.yggdrasil.com/private/adam/ezusb/ezusb_firmware-0.2.tar.gz
In case anyone is wondering why I have two tar files for
such small amounts of software, distributing ezusb_firmware and
ezusb_load as separate tar files makes things much easier
for distributions that track only GPL-compatible components or
that track and put GPL-incompatible components in a different source
tree.
TO DO (any assistance is welcome, of course):
o Generate and submit patch for USB hotplug script so
that everyone who follows it will get support for
automatic ezusb firmware loading.
o Generate and submit kernel patch to eliminate this
functionality in the kernel. This should introduce no
new kernel code whatsoever, should delete lots of stuff,
and should simplify the MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE support too.
Greg has indicated that might beat me to this.
