Greetings,
I've been testing a variety of VIA VT8235 based motherboards for the past
few weeks and the VIA USB 2.0 support has been guaranteed to hang every
time when using a USB 2.0 Hard Drive (or any other USB 2.0 device for that
matter). There have been minor improvements...
Most other people have told me the improvements have hardly been "minor".
Like: "now I can stream 40 MByte/sec on my vt8235", and "no more oopsing
on my via" and "those hangs are gone". (It may even have fixed a problem
with the Philips hardware.) Seems to depend on what devices you use, and
how you use them.
I know that the VIA hardware can still have trouble when it's stressed.
So far as I can tell, the same symptoms can happen on the NEC hardware;
it just takes a _lot_ less work to make the VIA hardware complain.
Are there any work arounds, or any more recent code available that might
help with the VIA EHCI?
Not yet from me, and there likely won't be until after the 2.5 kernels
start booting again on my vt8235 board.
