It's now working fine for me after a reboot. When I first did the update, I got impatient, and did a "sync". This yielded nothing, so I then kill -9ed it, which was, I admit, a little unfortunate. Didn't seem to work, but a bad idea all the same.
I've now managed things OK, and though I still get quite a lot of output to messages, none of it looks very scary: Jul 1 16:20:56 satsuma kernel: hub 1-0:0: debounce: port 2: delay 100ms stable 4 status 0x501 Jul 1 16:20:57 satsuma kernel: hub 2-0:0: debounce: port 2: delay 100ms stable 4 status 0x101 Jul 1 16:20:57 satsuma kernel: hub 2-0:0: new USB device on port 2, assigned address 3 Jul 1 16:20:57 satsuma kernel: usb-storage: This device (0451,5409) has unneeded SubClass and Protocol entries in unusual_devs.h Jul 1 16:20:57 satsuma kernel: Please send a copy of this message to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Jul 1 16:21:02 satsuma kernel: drivers/usb/core/message.c: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout Jul 1 16:21:02 satsuma kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Jul 1 16:21:02 satsuma kernel: Vendor: NEUROS Model: dig. audio comp.
