As it happens, purely by coincidence, I'm writing a USB Mass-Storage gadget driver right now. It's about halfway done, and if you're interested I could send it to you when it's ready (another couple of weeks perhaps). My driver is meant to run under Linux 2.6, so you would have to do some work to port it back to 2.4.18. But it would still be a lot less work than writing the whole thing yourself.
