It _should_ work. As an experiment, you could go so far as to also unmount /proc/bus/usb and rmmod usbcore before suspending, then modprobe and mount again after resume. Judging from your system log, even after the driver is unloaded and reloaded, interrupt requests are not getting routed to it. That sounds like a problem with the higher layers of Power Management (PCI maybe).
