Ok, more data:

 - the setconf-0325.patch doesn't help (all logs with that patch
applied)

... and the symptoms listed below are exactly what to expect given the khubd problem. Actually the problem is somewhere else, but here it's just burning khubd. If you were ambitious you could try to find exactly why the HID (?) driver isn't behaving right.

 - boot with no device. Plug mouse. Unplug mouse. USB dead, I
can't plug/unplug anything (looks like khubd is stuck)

- khubd backtrace is:

     hub_thread
     kernel_thread
