That's strange. I don't think there have been any significant changes to uhci-hcd between 2.6.6 and 2.6.7-rc1. Here's something you can try: Take the uhci-* files from drivers/usb/host/ in 2.6.6 and put them in the corresponding spot in 2.6.7 -- in other words, use the older version of the driver with the newer release of the kernel. Try building that and see how it works. If it still freezes, you'll know it's not the driver but some other component of the OS that has changed. I'm not at all familiar with the usb-uhci driver, and I know about the uhci driver only insofar as it is related to uhci-hcd. However, I find it very odd indeed that one of them would work with your device and the other one wouldn't.
