I am trying to get suspend/resume working on Acer Travelmate 230
laptop (with the latest available BIOS for that box). APM on
it is fubar, so that option is out. With the latest of Arjan
kernels (current Redhat "rawhide", 2.6.6-1.391) I can
do that as long as I will boot with 'acpi_sleep=s3_bios' parameter
and ehci_hcd module _not_ loaded.

With the above after 'echo 3 > /proc/acpi/sleep' the laptop goes
to sleep (any other value but 3 above does not have any discernible
effect) and even resumes - mostly. Strictly speaking it does that
even without 'acpi_sleep=s3_bios' but then video is totally gone,
regardless if X was started at any time or not, so this is not
that useful even if its keyboard and a network interface are still
operational. :-)

The problem is that after a resume its three USB hubs are visible
but anything attached is gone. Unloading and reloading uhci_hcd
module, which is in use, before or after sleep/resume cycle does
not have any effect. Replugging an external device (a mouse in
this case) is not doing anything either. Any ideas how to wake
up that bus? An internet search so far drew blank.

Another thing which is vanishing is a floppy. Its driver can be
reloaded without problems but a mechanism itself after a resume is
incommunicado. This is something which can be suffered for now. No
idea about PCMCIA slot as I do not have at this moment anything to
plug in there. But USB is here really important.

Oh, with ehci_hcd present a laptop starts a "going to sleep"
sequence but immediately wakes up by itself. A sleep indicator LED
never even blinks.

Please cc to me replies. I am not subscribed.
